Official Plot
Tony Stark is the complete playboy who also happens to be an engineering
genius. While in Afghanistan demonstrating a new missile he's captured and
wounded. His captors want him to assemble a missile for them but instead he
creates an armoured suit and a means to prevent his death from the shrapnel
left in his chest by the attack. He uses the armoured suit to escape. Back in
the U.S. he announces his company will cease making weapons and he begins work
on an updated armoured suit only to find that Obadiah Stane, his second in
command at Stark industries has been selling Stark weapons to the insurgents.
He uses his new suit to return to Afghanistan to destroy the arms and then to
stop Stane from misusing his research.
Review:
Well been a superhero fan I was very excited to see this film! Based on the
comics by the same name. Ironman was created by Stan Lee (creator of Spiderman,
fantastic 4, hulk and so many others) and first appeared in the comic world in
1963. The character has been in many comic series and animated adventures;
however this is his first film venture.
I was very happy to see this film for a couple of reasons. First been obviously
that yet another superhero was making it onto the big screen but also that
Robert Downey Jnr was playing the lead role. To date almost every role I have
seen this actor in has pleased me. He has a very unique charm in front of the
camera and is pretty much always a delight to watch.
He didn't disappoint in Ironman.
The film starts with Tony Stark (Downey) on his way to a testing area in
Afghanistan to show some US military his latest weapons, hoping they impress so
he can make some more money! He does impress along with some locals who also
want this new weapon for themselves. Stark get kidnapped and is involved in an
accident that leaves his heart in danger of failing. Stark been the genius that
he is creates a power source to keep his heart alive and instead of bowing down
to his captives to make this weapon he creates a metallic suit and escapes.
Back home the suit is adapted and turned into a sophisticated battle armour and
ironman is born!
With comedy elements that really did make the film, action sequences
and a brilliant cast this is probably one of the best superhero films I have
seen in a long time. Hopes of a sequel are a must.
