Hull City Council 1 Year, 4 Months ago Karma: 0
Hey,

on the 24th December 2006 me and my boyfriend moved into our council flat. On the 16th of January 2007 we noticed a problem with our bathroom wall, we reported it and were told it would be dealt with.

Over 7 months, since we moved in, the council have sent the odd surveyor or housing officer, we once got a plumber and a joiner who said they could do nothing until the problem upstairs had been fixed (leaky overflow pipe)

Still nothing has been done despite all our pestering, so I was just wondering, has anyone else had similar problems?

If so would you please contact me through the site.

There's a picture of the wall in the gallery on my profile.

Thanks

Post edited by: Dani2101, at: 2007/07/27 14:53

I know the feeling well.

7 years later i am still waiting for a new bath and bathroom floor. My house has the original tin bath (covered in chipped enamel) and the floor is rotting.

I have had serveral people out to look at it over the years, and the last straw was a spotty teenager dressed in a council workman uniform trying to tell me he was replacing the foor, only armed with half a floor board. Well he was told where to shove his half a board and not to come back until he had the rest of the floor boards with him!

I had just put a brand new kitchen in myself (this was a few years back) and the celling started the leak....... called the council, they sent a plaster to plaster the celling (no plumber to sort out the leak!) and he was going to plaster just over the hole with bright pink/brown plaster over my newly painted white celling.......oh and it was my responsibility to re paint the celling! Pointless as the leak wasnt fixed and the celling came down again!.

Cowboys and indians could do a better job. I refuse to do anymore work to my house until they come nad sort out all the niggley problems. I mean what more do they want, i have replaced the kitchen, new doors, skirting, flooring all the way through, new piping and electrics in the kitchen and its not even my house.

My daughter and her 5 month old son recently moved into a council house. She had been told that a new bathroom suite was to be fitted. When she moved in there it was, a new walk-in shower. After explaining to the council that her 5 month old son couldn't walk yet she was told to bath him in the sink !!!!
The alternative was to pay £170 labour plus the cost of a new bath and the council would fit it for her.
As the house had already been allocated to my daughter why did they then go ahead and fit a shower that was adapted for a disabled person?

The best part for me came when our case worker that we were assigned after the flood came to check on the progress...nothing was mentioned about the bathroom wall or leak from above, she just changed the subject when we mentioned it! In the end we were told to keep going in and asking when work was going to be done (yeah like we've not being doing that for the past almost 9 months now)and she gave us some energy efficient light bulbs...nice one, that helps everything.

I've been to a solicitor and they claim that nothing can be done against the council until we've lived in the property for over a year! How rediculous is that?!

I'm hopefully moving down south soon for a new job...I'll miss Hull but I wont be living here again until I can afford to go private or the council make some drastic changes.

There seems to be a lot of horror stories relating to council repairs, especially after the floods.
I guess we all want repairs doing, like now, but to the council it's just another job. Personally I think to get a repair done within 3 days is a reasonable response.
