HULL AWAY TO BULLS IN QUARTER FINALS

Hull FC will be hoping they can repeat their 2005 performance over Bradford Bulls in their bid to go all the way and make it to Wembley.

Three years ago Hull beat the Bulls by a point at the KC Stadium in the fifth round and then went on to put Leigh and St Helens out of the Challenge Cup before that historic victory over Leeds Rhinos in the final at the Millennium Stadium, Cardiff.

In the draw for the Carnegie Challenge Cup quarter finals (on Monday night), Hull and Bradford were paired together but this time the tie will be played at the Grattan Stadium (Odsal) on the weekend of May 31st and June 1st.

It is Hull’s third away tie in the competition after trips to Rochdale and Widnes in the previous rounds and coach Peter Sharp said: “It would have been nice to have been drawn at home but we’re obviously destined to play away all the time in the competition.

“If we are to go to Wembley, which we hope we do, then we’ll have to do it by playing away from the KC.

“To take a step nearer we have to beat Bradford and that’s going to be tough because they are a top side and have home advantage.

“But it is a challenge for us and one I am sure the boys will be really fired up for because to win it means you’re just 80 minutes away from the final at Wembley.

“Having played Bradford already this season at the KC we know what they can do. We started well but lost that game but we’re improving and hopefully by the time we play them in a couple of week’s time we’ll be even better.”

It has to be said that although Hull won in 2005 they did lose to the Bulls the following year when the sides met in the fourth round at the Grattan Stadium. Former Bulls star and Hull captain Lee Radford said: “It is always tough going to Odsal but this is the Challenge Cup and you don’t get much bigger motivation to win a game and I can guarantee all the boys will be well up and ready to go.”

The Carnegie Challenge Cup Quarter-Final Draw:

Wakefield v Oldham
Leeds v Wigan
Hull KR v St Helens
Bradford v Hull FC
Ties to be played on May 31st and June 1st.
