HULL NEED TO BE MORE RUTHLESS

Coach Peter Sharp will be looking to his side to be more ruthless in the future after they had bombed at least half a dozen chances in their 42-5 Carnegie Challenge Cup victory over Rochdale Hornets at Spotland.

Although Hull romped into the fifth round with an eight try performance, Sharp wasn’t happy with his sides offensive performance.
“We must have bombed at least half a dozen chances and we need to be a lot more ruthless than we were against Rochdale,” Sharp said.
“It is important we start to execute better and to do that we need a much better completion rate that we had in the second half at Rochdale.
“A 38 percent completion rate isn’t going to win you anything and those kind of figures just aren’t good enough. You can’t serious expect to play at the top level with those kind of percentages.
“But when we did hold on to the ball I thought we showed some neat touches and played some good footie.
“That was very encouraging and now we just have to make sure we do it more often, which I am sure, will come as we get players back from injury and start to train more together on the training field.”
A key figure in Hull’s attacking play will be half back Adam Dykes who returned after several weeks out with a neck injury.
Dykes is an influential player for Hull and, although a little rusty at times he also showed some neat and clever touches, which opened the Rochdale defence.
“Adam is still finding his feet, he hasn’t played much in the last couple of month but I thought he showed some nice touches,” added Sharp.
“He will have benefited from the run out and the opportunity to build up some combinations.”
Looking ahead to Huddersfield at the KC Stadium next Sunday, Sharp felt he had some positive to carry forward adding: “I felt the structure was good it was the execution we have to do better.
“That will come the more we play together as we have said a number of times this season. We need bodies on the field, training and playing, regularly.”
Having not been able to name 19 fit players for the Rochdale game, Sharp looks certain to be in a better position next week where Motu Tony (chest) and Ewan Dowes (knee) will return and he could have Matt Sing and Richard Whiting back in contention.
