WHITING OUT FOR REST OF SEASON |
Hull FC’s injury problems continued when utility back
Richard Whiting was tragically ruled out for the rest of the season
with a broken left leg.
Whiting, who has only just returned after a three and a half month
absence with a broken arm, has been taken to a hospital in London for
further treatment.
It is expected that Whiting, who looks as though he has broken both
bones in his leg will undergo an operation in London before returning
to Hull
Whiting’s injury came as he superbly set up Matt Sing’s first try of
the season which gave Hull half a chance to snatch a win five minutes
from time.
It was a sickening injury and which left coach Peter Sharp almost
speechless, “It is a bad injury and one which really does just typify
our season.
“I feel so sorry for Richard because he has worked so hard to come back
from his broken arm and I thought he was playing pretty well.
“It is another sad loss and once again we just seem to get a player back and then lose one, but we have to rise above that.”
Having seen his side lead 16-0 and then conceded tries in the dying
second of the first half and opening seconds of the second, Sharp
admitted: “Those two tries turned the game against us
“If we had gone in 16-0 at the half time we’d have been in the driving
seat but as it happened they got a big lift from that try and an even
bigger one from the one they scored right after half time.”
Sharp also felt Scott Hill took charge of the game in the last 30
minutes but admitted: “I just think we are both physically and mentally
fragile at the moment.
“We are down on confidence and I think we have a few people who can’t get the job done right now.
“They is still a lot of rugby to be play but we have to improve a lot.
We are not without hope and there is only one way we can up and that is
up.”
