MORGAN GIVES THUMBS UP TO VIDEO REFS |
|
Boots 'n' All tagged along as the Rugby Football League
trialled the use of a video referee in a non-televised match at the
Hull derby.
At the moment the video referee is only on duty at the games shown live on Sky, but that could all change.
"The important thing to stress is that the ref on the field gets one
look at it and is making the decision live," said RFL match official’s
director Stuart Cummings.
He added: "This gives us the option to replay it."
Ashley Klein was the man who assisted referee Phil Bentham and was called on to make two crucial decisions.
"If we have the opportunity to check a decision and come up with the right decision, then that is what matters," said Klein.
"I think fans and everyone throughout the game will appreciate it. I
think it has been a successful trial and we will see where we go from
here."
The coaches were also happy with the trial, especially Hull KR boss
Justin Morgan who has been one of the biggest advocates for television
refs at all games.
"Thumbs up, definitely the thumbs up," said Morgan.
"The only area for improvement I would like would possibly be an
explanation to the captain as to why a decision was or was not given."
